Higher intakes of lysine, threonine and valine are inversely associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease risk: A community-based case-control study in the Chinese elderly

The associations of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), aromatic (AAAs) and essential with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) risk have been widely investigated. However, the individual acid associated NAFLD remained inconclusive. present study aimed to investigate between intake in Chinese elderly. Methods A community-based health check-up program was conducted from Mar. Nov. 2020 Qingdao, China. diagnosed by ultrasonography accompanied epidemiological investigation. dietary intakes were investigated 3-day, 24-hour records calculated Nutrition Calculator software. multivariable-adjusted logistic regression model used odds ratios (ORs) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) quartiles risk. Results total 1328 participants, aged 65-96 years, participated program. Of these, 400 subjects identified, participants randomly selected as controls matched gender age (± 3 years), a 1:1 case-to-control ratio. Compared highest category lowest category, lysine (OR = 0.55; CI: 0.32, 0.97), threonine 0.57; valine 0.96), 0.52; 0.29, 0.93) inversely after adjustment for potential confounding factors (all P trend < 0.05). Dose-response analysis showed that 1000 mg increment AAAs reduced 16% 0.84; 0.73, 0.96).
